Crochet 101 this Friday!

This Holiday, give the gift of handmade.

This Friday at noon I will be at First Class, Inc. teaching a Crochet 101 workshop!

Learn the basic stitches needed to start your very first crochet project: a scarf, hand towel, baby blanket & more!

This is the perfect opportunity to start creating beautiful things for yourself and lived ones! Friday 6 November 2009 12-2pm First Class, Inc. 1726 20th Street, NW Washington D.C. 20009 (202) 797-5102 Besitos, Vanessa

My Cozy Sunday

This Sunday was a perfect day to relax; I just happen to love gray rainy days. I got up early to crochet at my local coffeeshop. Had a little jasmine tea and started a pretty scarf:

I'm using this offset shell pattern; it makes the scarf look lacy and gives it a little texture.

Up close:

After tea, I went down to the Dupont Circle Farmer's Market; everything was so beautiful and tasty-looking!

I looooove brussel sprouts!

I will make a soup today!

Radishes and turnips were everywhere, in all colours (Hakurei turnips, above).

Everytime I see daikon radishes, I think of the original Iron Chef episodes.

If it's pink, I'll buy it; I'm a sucker like that.

Rosy radishes; what a pretty name!

Purple kohlrabi looks like pretty purple flowers!

Broccoli as far as the eye can see,

Apples and cider everywhere!

Ginger makes me happy.

Perfect for soups, teas and tonics.

These peppers were small and the prettiest shade of bright yellow; they had a sweet and spicy taste.

Hope your Sunday was great; enjoy your week! Besitos, Vanessa

My Crafty Saturday: Halloween Edition

Happy New Year (as Halloween is the Witches' New Year)! Had enough candy, horror films, tricks & treats and such?

I got this cute sign for my apartment door; when I leave I turn the sign to "out", and when I come back home, "the Witch's Inn".

The Halloween store by my house has awesome props; I'm reminded here why I choose not to reproduce. Not a far stretch from reality.

I saw this costume in a window and thought it would be perfect for my niece! She was a sugar plum fairy this year:

I walked Ms. Cocoa Puppington III around the neighborhood today and saw so much Autumn goodness! I loved how beautiful all the leaves were.

I looove red leaves!

I saw a white moth sitting on orange leaves; my camera made it look all glowy:

I crocheted a scarf and tidied up the casa while watching my holiday staple:

I think the Great Pumpkin will visit Linus this year; I'm sure of it!

(it seems...

Lucy is doubtful.)

Krispy Kreme doughnuts are better when they're dressed up for the Holidays.

After a night of holiday ritual, I watched some Hitchcock Hour; that's Darren (of Bewitched!) on the right. I know how to spot 'em! Okay, I'm off to bed now, Happy Hallows; hope you enjoyed your evening! Besitos, Vanessa

My Crafty Saturday

This Saturday was the last market of the season for Ballston Arts & Crafts Market. While I am sad to see these past five months go by so fast, I'm definately looking forward to next year.

The weather was a little rainy and chilly, but we all made the day warm and comfy with hot apple ciders and cocoa.

Among the wonderful Autumn products at the market were the aromatic soaps of Kimbahu Designs; I loved their Light Grapefruit scented soap.

Kristina Bilonick's screen printed clothing was oh so swell!

Towards the close of the market me and some other vendors gave a thank you gift to Ballston A&C's manager Jessica Blaszczak for all of her hard work for us this season. It matched her coat!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the artists of the 2009 season of the Ballston Arts & Crafts Market, and to all of the awesome crafters that I've had the opportunity to meet and befriend! See you all next year!

Besitos,
Vanessa

My Crafty Saturday

Today many wonderful (and some monumental) things happened:
• I woke up today at 6am. I didn't even press snooze or wait until the very last minute to wake up, trying to convince myself that fifteen minutes is enough time to get dressed and ready.

• I left the house on time. Which is like, a miracle.

• I drove today. An actual car. Not a Power Wheels. No one was injured and the car is unscathed. Go me.

• I spent the day at the Fenton Street Market in Silver Spring, MD.

There were so many wonderfully talented people there! I was sitting next to April Mist Jewelry, fawning over her beautiful paper beads.

Bette's Bags was a few booths down; I soo badly want this one:

It is so Ninny-style. Oh! And I bartered one of my Brooklyn Hats for a really cool shirt made by Lendeh:

That's the beautiful Lendeh; that's my hat. This is my new shirt:

Representing Liberian life!

If you're in the area, come over to the Fenton Street Market! We'll be here for a while more, crafting and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Besitos,
Vanessa

My Crafty Saturday

This past Saturday, me and the Mafia gals got together for a meeting and some crafting. The craft du jour? Stamp making! Okay, so I've never done this before but I think I did okay:
Look: if you're gonna give me a blank stamp and ask me to write whatever I want, expect a very Ninny-style statement.
If you have to ask what this means, don't say it in public. Besitos, Vanessa

Fenton Street Market this Saturday!

This Saturday 3 October, join me in Silver Spring for the Fenton Street Market! Among the diverse array of local artists you'll find photography, jewelry and clothing; I'm almost more excited to meet the other vendors than to be one! Be sure to stop by and say hi to your Miss Ninny, and sit in for a free crochet demo if you have the time. Fenton Street Market
